Reviews

This package is power-packed. With two such names—Dottie West and Don Gibson—doing duet versions of great songs, this must melt off the shelves. Included is the hit, “Rings of Gold” and a lot of other great material. An added attraction is the wonderful production by Chet Atkins and Danny Davis.

Liner Notes

Duo of Distinction

Since I’m a long-time fan of both Dottie West and Don Gibson, I was very pleased when I got a call from the RCA Records people asking if I’d like to write a few lines about Dottie and Don for the back of their first duet album. On my way over to the RCA studios to hear the album and talk with the producers I thought about Dottie West and Don Gibson and what great talents they are. Dottie with her big voice and her ready smile and her style as a performer whether she’s in front of an audience or in front of the mike in a recording studio. Don with his warm and wonderful ballad voice, his quiet, shy charm and his rare ability to make every song he sings with his own individual touch. So, I listened to the album and I thought, what a perfect singing team! In a way they even sing alike. I was so impressed that when I sat down at the typewriter to start to write about Dottie and Don and this album, I suddenly realised I couldn’t think of a thing to say. Sure I could go on and on about their talent, but it’s all been said many, many, many times by DJs, by professional music people and, most important of all, by you, fans and public. Their talent is so obvious on every song in this album that selecting one or another arrangement, delivery, performance for singing out is simply unnecessary. It’s wasting words when you could better be listening to Dottie and Don! Let me finish by saying Dottie and Don worked very hard on this album because they both feel you, their fans, deserve the best in song material and performance. You’ve never heard Dottie and Don sound better than in this wonderful collection, and I’m sure you’ll agree with me that the idea of recording an album with Dottie West and Don Gibson together, was just great.
