Reviews

Dottie West has never sang better; in this LP she packs a ton of emotion and empathy. Her hit “Country Girl” is wistful and mellow on the heartstrings. Her “Faded Love” and “Take These Chains From My Heart”-two standards-sparkles and she adds fire to the flame with the tearjerker “Little Things”.
Dottie recalls her country girl childhood on this package of sentimental songs. The package is one of the most tasteful and well-arranged to come from the tasteful Chet Atkins production room. “Little Things”, “Just Call Me”, “When”.

Liner Notes

I Was Born A Country Girl“.

Shelly, we came here today, because I thought you would like to see the place where I was born. I was born a country girl. I wanted to walk with you through these same green fields that I used to walk here as a little girl like you, see you chase the butterflies that seem to be the very same ones I chased but never caught; have you pick a bunch of wild flowers and bring them to me as I picked them for my mother so many times. I wanted to run with you over these hills and through the woods where I used to play day after day, for too soon you will be a young woman with dreams and plans of your own, and you will probably do as I did—go to the city to carry out these dreams and plans. I hope they will all come true. Life is not a bed of roses—there will be the rainy days. Remember, there’s a kind of peace and serenity here that you will find no other place. There’s nothing more refreshing to the mind than a walk through these meadows after a shower of rain. It’s here that you will feel closer to God. Shelly, you look like your Daddy, with your blue eyes, blond hair and even the same smile, but today you reminded me of me, for I saw you as a country girl, like I was—and always will be. I’m so happy I’m a country girl.
