Reviews

This disk is solid sales ammunition. Dottie’s vocals are full of heart and style, and really cause a lump in the throat. The backing is very modern, with strings and excellent engineering. In Addition to title song there are “My Baby’s Gone,””Where Love Is” and others.
One of countryland’s biggest female name- Dottie West offers a few surprises in her lates Victor LP. Although she herself is a successful songwriter, none of the material in this one is her own. Rather she displays great versatility with tunes by Rod McKuen and Jacques Brel (“If You Go Away”), Donovan (“Catch The Wind”) and Jimmie Rodgers (“It’s Over”). The surprise package pleasantly displays Dottie in a completely different light than is her usual custom.
Country and pop tunes interspersed on this lovely new package from Dottie West. Her poignant reading of If You Go Away” is a highlight, and she is also tops on “Crying,” “What I’m Cut Out to Be” and “It’s Over.” A potent package.

Liner Notes

Dottie West “The Ultimate of the World TALENT

WHAT I’M CUT OUT TO BE is the understatement of the decade for Dottie West. She is the ultimate of the word “talent.” She’s a fine singer, has had many hits as a songwriter, and fully represents the moods and sounds of the great Nashville heritage. In her own unique way, Dottie West is country music. Then there’s the Dottie West that I know personally—the warm, tender hearted human being. To me these qualities are what makes her a great person. Dottie has a very full and rewarding life. She is a mother and a home-maker, yet she fills demand personal appearances schedules and is a top recording star for RCA Victor. And, to Dottie her personal and professional life are equally important. She is devoted to her friends and family and remembers all of the seemingly unimportant little things that make up a beautiful relationship Professionally, she is at the top of her field. The country feeling has been with her since birth, and with the combination of her background and her fine talent, she developed a first-class country style. Her unlimited determination and energy have made Dottie West one of the biggest starts on the Nashville scene.
